Greece has become one of the most popular tourist destinations!
In the country of the Olympic Games, Neptune has embraced our islands with a unique treasure: our beautiful coasts. With deep blue, crystal-clear sea and a unique submarine world that awaits to be discovered!
3.000 inhabited and uninhabited islands, 16.575 Kilometres of coast line constitute a unique challenge of tourism and life… Following the liberalization of diving in February 2006 there has been an enormous growth and valorisation of the Greek coasts and sea beds. Our country has to offer marvellous meteorological conditions, amazing underwater visibility and a pluralism of submarine life and challenges such as reefs, fishes, shipwrecks, caves and much more...
Greece: pole of attraction for divers!
The coasts of our islands are distinguished by perpendicular rocks that become submarine precipices which go straight down to the sea bottom. The Greek sea beds, full of reefs are the best thing that can happen to both unexperienced and experienced divers. The large amount of caverns in the sea and on the surface is famous for their rich decor in stalactites and stalagmites. Rich in fishes, sea turtles, dolphins, seals and others, the Greek sea beds wait to be discovered.
One can also find numerous shipwrecks of many periods and types: Ancient shipwrecks, shipwrecks from the time of the two world wars, commercial wrecks. Tanker, planes, submarines. Even the famous shipwreck of the Britannic (similar to Titanic) is to be found in Greece, near the island of Kea (better known as Tzia’). All above renders our country ideal for all kinds of vacation, including of course family leisure and adventure breaks.
Greece has a solid infrastructure for diving!
Both in the region of Attica and in the islands there are schools and scuba centres with organised infrastructure, ships and equipment. Experienced instructors are ready to reveal to you the secrets of Greek sea beds.
They offer all types of services that a scuba diver may require such as: 1. Sale of equipment for skin diver and scuba diving of all the known brands. 2. Discover scuba (anyone can have a first contact with the submarine world). 3. Scuba Diving Courses of all levels. PADI, CMAS, IANTD, TDI, SDI, ANDI, NAUI, SSI, VSD, BARRACUDA etc. Course of Open Water Diver to Advanced Trimix. 4. Refill of gas tanks 200 – 300 bar. 5. Guided dive with modern ships and equipment.
Each island has its own diving centres, with boats ready to take you to the best immersion points.
Following the liberalization of the coasts and diving in Greece, a big interest has been developed worldwide for diving in Greece. The places where diving is prohibited are few. Also, due to its costal peculiarity Greece has little by little become, as it deserves to be, a must for Technical diving. Mixes of Nitrox, Triox, Heliox, Trimix, Rebreathers are available for the divers.
The shipwreck of Britannic is without a doubt one of the most important point of technical diving worldwide! The temperature of the water is between 14 C and 28 C, visibility can reach 30 metres. The best period for dives is between April and November. A uniform of 5 mm is sufficient. For dives during the winter or in big depths, a uniform of 7 mm or a waterproof uniform are indicated.
